Woman Sues American Airlines For $5 Milli Over Lost Luggage

When most of us lose our luggage, we get mad, maybe throw a temper tantrum and ask the airline in question for help. Not Danielle Covarrubias. First she paid $25 to check her bag on American Airlines. Then they lost it and refused to refund her $25. In turn, she is suing them for $5 million, according to ABC News.
Covarrubias filed a class action lawsuit in her native Pierce County, Washington against the airline when they lost her luggage on a Seattle-Grand Rapids, Mich. flight. It’s the first lawsuit since American started charging for bags in 2008 (it was also the first major carrier to impose checked baggage fees).
“It just goes to show you how enraged people are by the lack of common-sense regulation in the airline industry,” George Hobica, an aviation expert and creator of airfarewatchdog.com, told ABC News. “It doesn’t make any sense at all that somebody should charge for a service and then screw up and not give you your money back.”
Covarrubias waited for the next flight to arrive but her bag–with more than $800 of her possessions–wasn’t on it, according to court papers. She spent more than $300 on new clothing and toiletries and then waited another 24 hours for news from the airline. “In her last conversation with American Airlines … she was told nothing could be done,” the lawsuit said. The airline refused her demand for a refund of the baggage fee.
An American Airlines spokesman said the carrier was reviewing the lawsuit and offered no immediate comment.

25 Style Must Haves of 2010 (So Far)

It’s the middle of the year, so Complex is looking back at The Best of 2010 (So Far) with a series of features that highlight our favorite stuff from the world of entertainment, fashion, art, and more.

Wow. Can you believe that 2010 is half done? Time is traveling impossibly fast and the only solace we tiny humans can scrabble for is to leave a well-clad corpse. Which is where we come in! The past six months have been bonkers for our corner of the style universe and to celebrate the glorious bananasness that we were blessed with, the Complex fashion squad has compiled our 25 favorite things EVER (...in 2010 [so far]). Not only do we adore each watch, shoe, pair of sunglasses, jacket etc. etc. individually, all of these things, when combined, form a well-rounded wardrobe with a zillion outfits. And if you’re in the position where dust motes and moths come flying out of your wallet because you're broke, then just remember that this is a countdown, so rob someone/sell plasma/become a confidence man to cop just the top five.

                                                                                                           Enjoy.

WTF?!- Watch Soulja Boy’s 20th Birthday on Pay-Per-View

Soulja Boy is looking to take advantage of his fame any way he can by turning his 20th Birthday party into a pay-per-view event. On July 28th, 8pm PST, fans can pay just a mere $2.99 to watch the Hollywood event live which will include a red carpet VIP entrance and a performance of new and past hits. You must be a pretty hard core Soulja Boy fan to get in on this action. Honestly, this sounds more like something LeBron, Maverick and their LRMR Marketing group would be involved with.

Tweet Of The Day: Swiff D

If all goes to plan… we will be hearing the trio’s debut album, Grown Kid Syndrome, on October 12th. We all know what these guys are capable of doing with the mixtapes, so it’s going to be interesting to see how they bring it with an album. I’m expecting great things though. Shouts to Swiff D, the group’s in-house producer, on the info.

Android Devices Get Video Calling via Adobe

A new Adobe AIR demo is making the rounds today; it shows how Android phones can be used for user-to-user video calls.
Built using an upcoming release of AIR 2.5, this app is theAndroidAndroid and Adobe developer communities’ answer to FaceTime. The more generous in spirit would call this move “cheeky.” At any rate, it throws yet another log on the bonfire that is the Adobe-Apple public dialog.
The app was originally called “FlashTime,” but the name was changed to avoid some confusion.
Mark Doherty, Adobe’s Flash Platform Evangelist for mobile, said this isn’t an official release from Adobe; rather, it’s something he built over the course of three days to test the features of AIR 2.5 for Android. We’d love to show you his demo video here, but unfortunately, that clip is currently password-protected and not for public consumption.
Doherty doesn’t plan to release the app as a product, but he said he will open-source the code. He expects the code to be stable and finished by next week; interested parties should contact Doherty directly.
AIR and Flash for Android were announced first in February.

Vans California Sk8 Hi- Re Issue

Vans is dropping two new Sk8 Hi designs to select retailers and if you are lucky enough to be in one of those areas we highly suggest scooting on over and picking up a pair of them.
The shoes are set to hit in two colorways that are both heavily perforated for both style and function. Be it black or grey both shoes are also lined in camel colored leather that really gives off an air of quality. The white vulcanized outsole finishes both looks off lovely. These are available now at Vans California retailers including Kicks/HI

Nike "Sweet Classic" High-Textile Pack

Several Nike Sweet Classics have shown up of late, many of which celebrated Lance Armstrong’s final Tour de France with LIVESTRONG collaborations.  These two new pairs of Sweet Classic Highs are straight-up Nike Sportswear, but that doesn’t mean they’re without their own special designation.  The ‘Textile Pack’ includes a‘WS’-script tongue tag that showed up on a trio of Air Force IIs earlier this month, and while nobody seems to know what that stands for, two different shades of grey for cotton jersey-like uppers makes for two dope designs.  Check out photos of both pairs after the jump and grab one or both from FinishLine or get the light grey/black joints now on eBay.

Nike Air Max 1- ACG Pack

Last year brought us a ton of Safari’d Nike Air Max 1s celebrating their peer the Safari 87, and here’s a look at another AM1 that borrows from that wild spirit.  All Conditions Gear rose to prominence in the early 1990s, running through the same rocky trails that gave the Safari it’s signature pebbles.  Here’s an Air Max 1 that comes full-circle by incorporating the ACG triangle logo on the heels and tongue tags of a dope white and tonal blue palette.

The removable decals are available in an array of designs, ranging from classic 8-bit video games by Atari and Nintendo to art pieces by Eboy and Jeremy Fish. Take a look at some of the designs here and log on to their webstore for the entire collection.

1st Look: Air Jordan Prime 5

The Air Jordan Alpha 1 design was used for the silhouette and the Air Jordan 5 brought the toe box, heel panel, top eyelets, mesh side panel, tongue and collar lining. The sneaker also has a phylon midsole and bottom loaded full length Zoom Air for great cushioning. We are more than likely to expect these to hit retailers for JB’s spring lineup in 2011.
